Description & Services
Description of service(s) Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes involuntary and sustained muscle contractions causing abnormal body postures. It commonly occurs in the neck, eyes, vocal cords, arms or can be generalised throughout the body. It is one of the most common, but least known, disorders. It can be hereditary or idiopathic or result from a brain injury. There is no known cure, but treatments are available including drugs, injections, and surgery.
The mission of the DMRFC is to advance research for more treatments and ultimately a cure; to promote awareness and education; and to support the needs and well being of affected individuals and families.
